Ihminen on lauman johtaja ja vain lauman johtajalla on oikeus tapella laumassa. Myös koirilla on laumajärjestys vaikka ihminen olisi johtaja. Yhteenotoilta pystyy myöskin välttymään vahvistamalla korkeampi arvoisen koiran asemaa antaa sille ruuan ensin, antaa sen kulkea ensin ovista, se saa huomiota ensin jne. Myöskin tekee sen heti selväksi että vain johtaja saa tapella. Näillä periaatteilla meidän perheessä on vältytty riidoilta koirien kesken.
