Was good, not great, and one of those movies which fades from your memory even as you're leaving the cinema.

My cast ratings:

* Ioan Gruffudd (Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic)- he's no Adrian Zmed, but was quite good in the role. I wonder, though, if they'd just gone after somebody like Jeff Goldblum, then they could've pushed this movie up to A-Grade fare. But that would've negated the casting of . . .

* Jessica Alba (Sue Storm/The Invisible Girl) - hot, yes, an actress . . . that's still open for debate. Some of her acting choices (in terms of expression, emoting, etc.) are bewildering. A bit young for the role, too - sort of like the casting of Nicole Kidman as a neurosurgeon in Days of Thunder.

* Chris Evans (Johnny Storm/The Human Torch) - was great in the role, making an abrasive character likeable, (although some times they went over the top with his antics).

* Michael Chiklis (Ben Grimm/The Thing) - awesome as the thing.

* Julian McMahon (Victor Von Doom/Dr. Doom) - very good, but probably lacked the menace required for the role. Also, some times, he seemed to be playing with an accent which was distracting considering how infrequently it resounded.

The movie lacked a total subplot, with Doom looking to dominate for the sake of being an evil bastard. They could've developed that, because the final confrontation seems almost to be an afterthought - like they realized they'd gone 90 minutes and had to wrap it up.

Also, the movie takes a terribly stupid turn in the last ten minutes with the creation of a machine which can turn them back into their human-selves.

This was one subplot which ran through the extent of the movie and was fine . . . as long as it never reached fruition. It did, which means we can all jump into this machine and become fantastic.

Good, but not great. Up there with the original Superman. It's a nice, enjoyable timekiller, but a few performances aside, it's not something which is going to be troubling you too much afterward.
