Just recently started watching Arrested Development. Flopped for whatever reasons on commercial tv here, and I started catching it on cable. Extremely funny. I always wondered whether the concept had longevity, though. Has it remained funny throughout? I've only seen a couple of seasons. Jobe's a legend.

Another show I've recently discovered and find extremely funny is Curb Your Enthusiasm, with Larry David. Find that very funny and acerbic. Don't know if you can really classify it a sitcom, though.

As for the others mentioned, The Simpsons has been around forever. What's it in now? It's 14th or 15th season? That's a long time to expect any show - even one with the safety-net of a static environent (as in the kids can't grow up, become ugly, irrelevant, or whatever) - to keep being funny. While it'd be sad, they should pull the plug, go out on top, and keep something in the tank for the feature they keep talking about making.

Crap> like Full House and Family Matters satisfies whatever demographic it's aimed at - family, the WWE audience, or whatever it is. They're never expected to be number one shows but to satisfy a certain number and expectation, which is why they last forever. More's expected of the top shows and mediocrity isn't accepted.
