I rented this flick on DVD this weekend. This is EXACTLY the kind of movie I would have loved when I was a kid... It was defintely fast paces and had some good action sequences.

However, it didn't mesh too well with my tastes these days. While it did get better toward the end, I couldn't believe how incredibly cheesy and insulting it was.

The funniest part in the movie was when the lead character was bringing the cell-phone up the stairs in the police station and was losing his signal. Only one floor away from the police, he decides he can't risk climbing up any higher or the call might get cut off. What does he do? Does he simply lay the phone down in the stair well and run up the last flight of stairs to get the attention of the police officers? NOPE! Does he simply go back downstairs and hand the phone over to the police offers on the main floor? NOPE! HE RUNS BACK OUT OF THE BUILDING, GETS IN HIS CAR, AND KEEPS DRIVING! AAARGGHHHH!

Some more gems:

Whenever Kim Basinger talks to the lead character on the phone, she does so in a 1-900 lusty breathless voice.

When the lead character is surrounded by thugs who plan on killing him, his friends show up (not knowing what's going on) and start grilling him with questions. The lead character uses the distraction to jump off a pier into the water (not even caring that he's just left his friends there, surrounded by killers with guns). Even more peculiar... The thugs don't think to use his friends as hostages. They just leave them alone to chase after the lead character again. Sheeesh!
