I too saw AVP with my buddy Chuck. We ended up having a Mystery Science Theater 3000-esque screening of the film. We made fun of it relentlessly throughout. I have never fidgeted in my seat so much during a movie. Dull as a butterknife.

Open Water, however, was very good. The premise behind this one is as follows: A busy, professional couple takes a vacation on a whim and decides to go scuba diving with a group of people. A confusing head count results in the abandonment of the couple and they drift along in the ocean like sharkbait hoping someone will find them. The actors are actually swimming with live sharks and, from what I've read, the only protection they are wearing is chain mail under their wetsuits, thus making this film even more intense.

This one's definitely worth checking out. The intensity lies in what you don't see. That's what makes this film so cool. Unlike AVP where everything is telegraphed.
