Subject: Fat Albert

A cute, wholesome family movie, but not exactly what I'd call a comedy. Oh, it had a few funny moments, but the whole tone of the movie was more preachy than funny. It seemed like the movie was more or less an homage to the real-life people that inspired the cartoon of Fat Albert and the Cosby kids. The guy who was the inspiration for Fat Albert himself had recently passed away and the ending was a touching tribute to that guy.

I loved the cartoons as a kid, but I remember Rudy being a scoundrel (lying, cheating, trying drugs); here he was protrayed as a nice guy (who actually dates the main female character!). I guess the real Rudy had some creative control over his silver-screen version of himself.

Not recommended for the theater. A (free) rental perhaps? Better yet, wait for cable.
