Favorite Bird story:

Celtics down by 1. KC Jones calls timeout and gathers his team into the huddle, he's just about to begin diagraming a play on his clipboard, when Bird interrupts him, saying "get the ball to me and get out of the way." Steaming, Jones throws down his clipboard and lays into Bird, "I'm the coach of this team and you will not undermine me! What I say goes!" He looks at Bird, who doesn't really react and then looks at the team: "Get the ball to Bird and get out of the way!"

Fantastic.

Second favorite Bird story:

Bird walks into lockeroom prior to AT&T Three-Point shooting competition at All-Star weekend and asks "Who's going to finish second?" Then proceeds to BURY all comers, ending up with the famous turn-his-back-on-the-hoop-before-the-last-ball-hits-net and finger point.

Beautiful!

Last Bird story:

Bird vs. Hawks. Bird is absolutely on fire! He is so hot, even the Hawks bench is cheering for him. Bird nails an impossible shot with 3 Hawks all over him and the Atlanta bench players are practically falling over themselves in delight. Coach Mike Fratello later fines all of his reserves $1000.00 for their display. Says Cliff Levingston "Best grand I ever spent!"
