I've considered this for a while. What's to stop booking a film in 50% of cinemas with one ending, and in 50% of cinemas with an alternate ending? (In Hollywood, the original alternate ending is usually the unhappy one).

Surely there are people out there who'd go to see both versions?

Additionally, why not cut a film two different ways to accommodate both children and adult ratings? This might seem extravagant, but if you've seen Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace there's a movie which suffers from multiple personality disorder, unsure whether it's catering for kids or adults.

Also, it's not like you'd have to shoot extra sequences. Movies have an excess of footage. It's just a case of re-editing.

Of course, this might make too much sense for Hollywood.
