It shatters the illusion when the movement of the mouth isn't in sync with the audio - and that even includes when it's the voice which actually does go with the mouth in movement. Also, Asian dubbing has been parodied by every comic going around. It's being parodied to the point of it being synonymous with dubbing of Asian flicks, so that's another major detractor.

Saw...The Killer, was it, with Chow and directed by John Woo. That was a classic. Have heard Woo's direction in Hollywood is somewhat cliche, such as in Face-Off. Some people said they couldn't believe when he worked in a boat-chase sequence at the end, but weren't surprised that he did so.

Are you sure the scenes which are cut aren't deemed unsuitable for our audiences? Or, then again, they might be airplane-versions. To explain that, I saw Crocodile Dundee (again) on a plane to Canada (in 1987), and couldn't believe a lot of the inoffensive stuff cut from that version - like when Mick Dundee stops the mugger fleeing by throwing with a can of produce. That was gone.

I'm guessing they're edited because there's no way to control who's watching. It's not like you can ask people to leave.

Also saw a different version of Flying High (Airplane! for the U.S.) which begun with music other than the JAWS' music, as well as that song the stewardess sings. There were also other bits and pieces which were changed for whatever inexplicable reasons.
