Just a quick comment and possible solution.
Ace Hardware on Mt. Juliet Rd sells a motion activated sprinkler that attaches to your hose and turns on when it sees motion.

Might be a deterrent until it gets hot outside.

I personally like the neighborhood without fences. One other option is to talk to the kids like they are an adult, and explain why you don't appreciate them trampling through the yard and ask them to cross prior to yours. Talking to them makes shows them that you respect them and are treating them like adults... just a thought.
