The cameras being replaced are under warranty. One of them may have failed after being hit by someone coming into the lower pool area, but I am not 100% certain about that.
We have prosecuted several people for incidents caught on camera. While the camera system isn't perfect yet - it's better than nothing. There was a physical assault on a girl in another neighborhood that was caught on camera. It was that footage the helped to ID the alleged assailants and later convicted them. If the cameras help prevent one attack at the pool, or maybe one in the parking lot, it seems like a small price to pay. I believe the cameras have had an impact, but I don't believe that wasn't their main purpose. Cameras will only keep honest people honest.
