Shakespeare's diction conveys the season when he says "When yellow leaves, or none, or few do hang." He clearly shows how Fall changes into Winter. Since as most people, who don't live here, see the changes start when leaves start falling of the trees. He also shows the time of day that changes all the time. The time changes throughout the sonnet, starting at the middle of the sonnet when it's dusk and when it ends when it's night.

Time and season are significant in the sonnet because when Shakespheare says, "Death's second self" it says how
human life is not eternal. Which seems to be the main plot of the sonnet. Time hurdling us towards our doom!
