>convey the season? Shakespeare uses imagery and metaphors to convey the season he's describing. It is around late fall, or beginning to be winter. It is cold, dark, lonely and bare. The leaves are falling from the trees, the birds are leaving, and his diction also illustrates the changes in time because he's describing that darkness is about to wrap itself around the world: ("As after sunset fadeth in the west, Which by and by black night doth take away[...]")

>sonnet? Time and season are significant because it illustrates change. As time changes, so does people and as time quickly passes, so does life and it draws us nearer to death. The season, which is fall or early winter, kind of goes along with time because it is the end of the year and when i think of winter i think of bleakness (dont ask why) and it illustrates the end of things which is probably old age or death. This is why the season he chose is perfect for this sonnet. The sonnet is just a bunch of metaphors so the guy here is probably talking about his old age and he's saying that his age is like twilight and that fire is slowly put out in the darkness. So the guy here is probably about to die!
