2009 Destination Vallejo Photo Competition
Sponsored by the Vallejo Convention & Visitors Bureau
Vallejo, CA offers many surprising things to see and do including fantastic attractions, historical and art districts, exciting entertainment and festivals, unique public art, fabulous foods and beautiful parks and waterways to explore. Those who live and work in Vallejo know that there are thousands of surprising views of Vallejo. Photographers are invited to enter the 2009 Destination Vallejo Photo Competition to showcase their best images of Vallejo’s many views.
What to Enter
We are looking for images that portray Vallejo as an attractive and exciting destination. Images will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit.
Here are just a few ideas:
• Interesting angles, interior images of familiar places
• New and old architectural treasures
• Photos of plants and wildlife from Vallejo parks
• Waterfront views of Mare Island and Vallejo
• Weddings, reunions and other family gatherings; people enjoying Vallejo
• Ethnic ceremonies and celebrations
• Food and entertainment settings (inside & out)
Prizes
Winning images will be featured in Destination Vallejo print and electronic marketing materials produced by the Vallejo Convention & Visitors Bureau. A total of $1,500 in prize money will be awarded, including a Grand Prize of $500.
Entry
The competition is open to everyone except employees of the Vallejo Convention & Visitors Bureau and Georgia House Graphics. The Vallejo Convention & Visitors Bureau shall have the right to verify, in their sole judgment, winner eligibility. Entries must be received by March 31, 2009. Adding photos to the DestinationVallejo group on Flickr and entry to the contest constitutes your agreement to allow your photographs to be published and used in online and offline marketing materials produced by the Vallejo Convention & Visitors Bureau and select travel partners. Entrants retain ownership and all other rights to future use of their photographs. Photos will be credited where possible but cannot be guaranteed.
Submitting Entries
• Log in to Flickr.com using your existing Flickr™ or Yahoo!™ ID. If you do not have a Flickr™ account, you can sign-up for a free account at Flickr™.com. Flickr™ and Yahoo!™ are registered trademarks of Yahoo, Inc. If you have trouble using Flickr™, please consult their help files.
• Go to Flickr.com and search for the group DestinationVallejo in the Search Groups box.
• On the DestinationVallejo group page, click the Join This Group button.
• Upload images to Flickr™.com as publicly accessible, in the highest resolution you have available.
• Include the tag VCVBPhoto09. If you do not tag your photos by the deadline, they will not be considered for the competition.
• Add the photos to the DestinationVallejo group by clicking on the “Add to Group” icon. (Note: all photos will be subject to review before they appear in the DestinationVallejo group. Please wait at least three days for them to appear.)
• Identify locations and events in captions of no more than 50 words per image.
• Submit an official entry form with signed model releases, where applicable, and send by mail to: Vallejo Convention & Visitors Bureau Photo Contest, 289 Mare Island Way, Vallejo, CA 94590 by March 31, 2009. If you send it by mail, please email destinationvallejo@yahoo.com to say to expect it. Or scan the form and email it: destinationvallejo@yahoo.com.
Guidelines
• Each entrant may submit up to 10 photos to the competition.
• Official entries will be judged by the VCVBPhoto09 tag. Entrants are encouraged to add an unlimited number of photos to the Destination Vallejo group and then tag the 10 (or 15) images that they would like to be considered for official entry when the contest closes on March 31, 2009.
• Photo entries must be at least a large size on Flickr (about 750x1024).
Model Releases
Entries featuring people are encouraged, but must be accompanied by signed model releases granting the Vallejo Convention & Visitors Bureau the right to use the images in its marketing materials and website. Releases (see attached sample) should include contact information for the people featured, including full names and phone numbers. Photographs of children should include signed permission by a parent or legal guardian.
Judging
Winning entries will be selected by their depiction of Vallejo as well as overall photo quality and must be received by March 31, 2009. The judging panel will include representatives from the Vallejo Convention & Visitors Bureau and Georgia House Graphics. Results will be announced by May 15, 2009.
