I had a helluva lot more friends as a youth than I do as an adult. When you get 'old' you get involved in the responsibilities of work and family and don't get to socialize as much.

Absolutely it is critical to have youth involvement. That they ensure the future of the party is without question. But they should have to work as hard to get elected as any other delegate and if they lack the initiative to get out the vote, then they're probably not the kind of future we need.
