Mike, you said:
"I would far rather vote for someone who held a principled and credible position, and could articulate and defend that position, particularly on matters as fundamental as war and peace, than someone who simply put forth a position because it seemed popular".

Fair enough. On this "fundamental" matter Mr. Orchard has consistently been opposed to the invasion of Iraq. His position has been "credible" and his statements have been very "articulate".

Are you suggesting that Mr. Orchard is doing something because it's "popular while Mr. MacKay is doing something because it's "principled"? If so, then I confess that I'm very disappointed in you and I'll simply observe that a position that is popular with the majority of Canadians is far better than a position that is popular with right-wing-nut ideologues, IMNSHO.

On the other hand, giving you the benefit of the doubt, I'll assume that you don't demean the "principles" of those who oppose the war. I'll also assume that you don't demean the honestly held opinions of what appears to be a majority of your fellow citizens.

Ergo, you must be supporting Mr. Orchard since his principles are truly Canadian in contrast to the other contenders who label their "principles" with other words.

I'm sure Mr. Orchard will be very appreciative.

Garnet
