Rosemary Clooney was a lyricists and composers friend. It's not only that she had a great voice, but she was the only female singer of her generation to consistently try and sing the songs the way they were written. She wasn't a stylist and contrary to what some of the obituaries have said, she was not an interpreter. She was a person who trusted the writers of the song and used her magnificent voice to sing the songs as written. Of her signature song, "Our Love is here to stay", Ira Gershwin said nobody else had ever sung it the way they had written it. She was a lifelong friend of Iras, but she sang every major composer in the forties and fifties.
I haven't looked at the site you have in your messsage yet, so I apologize if I'm repeating anything they said, but a lot of the obits have missed the point. Tough life at times too, with her addiction to painkillers and her stay in a psychiatric hospital.

I saw Rosemary Clooney in 4 Girls 4, with Margaret Whiting, Rose Marie and Helen O'Connell and she was definitely the stand out. A fine and unique talent who will be missed.
