Subject: Is this a good idea, or a bad idea?

I just found out that a friend and co-worker is dying of stomach cancer. Cure rate for this form is 0%. He's been given 6-18 months. He has a boy and girl (ages 7 and 8) that live here with their mother. They absolutely worship their dad, he has them more often than their mother does. He's not going to tell the kids until further down the line, they're too young to deal with that much stress for what could be years. Anyway, I thought of offering to take a BUNCH of pictures of him and the kids, and making picture disks for them to have. Something to remember him by in future years. Would it be okay to ask him if he'd like to do that?

Pam

If your coworker has told you directly about his illness, I think it's OK to ask him.

Actually, there was a movie I saw time ago, where the cancer patient was recording messages for her children.

It would help the children too. It would make them understand their identity.

Yes, he told me about it himself, and all I can think about is those poor kiddos losing their dad so young. I thought maybe if I could talk him into doing something like taking them to the park, so I could get lots of candid shots of them having fun and being happy, would be a wonderful keepsake for them later on.

BTW, I removed your post to J, it seemed a little too confrontational since he said nothing about either topic in his post. These people didn't come here because they wanted to have political and/or name debates, so let's leave those topics out of unrelated threads, okay?

You may want to delete the posts Melody posted for me, and my reply also. Seems to me her post was openly confrontational, and so was my reply. I'm not sure exactly what her problem is, and she also seems a bit irrational in her venting.

If Melody wants a real discussion, she should stick to some facts, and my reply will be the same.

I'm not sure what topics are OK and what not, but if you clarify that I'll do my best to follow the guidlines or find another forum.

Thanks.

Melody was referring to something you said further down the board about Rock, and she used it in reply to a post by you. Granted, she should have posted it in the original post by you.

J's post had nothing to do with anything, wasn't directed to you, and didn't mention abortion or politics, so you're response was a little out of place.

You can discuss whatever you want here, just don't turn an unrelated post into another topic. IE, a post of "how's the weather where you are?" should be answered with "Hot and humid", not "fine here, but they Palestinian's are being driven into the desert where they are dying of dehydration and sunstroke". However, you are perfectly welcome to start a new topic on Palestinian weather conditions, which can then be joined by anyone who wishes to partake of it.

What you said makes perfect sense. I'll keep it in mind.

For some reason, I keep posting in the wrong place on the thread.

Pam, I think that sounds like a lovely idea. You could also scan some of his favorite existing pics and burn them onto cds.

How sad for your friend and his children.
