I don't fear technology, I really don't. Some I find useful and convienent in my everyday life. What annoys me is that every new appliance comes with 5000 functions. I generally have a use for 3 of those functions. I resent having to learn how to use the other 4997 functions in order to use the 3 functions that I want to use. Also, if they are going to add more functions, they might as well add ones that would be truly helpful to me.

I don't want the VCR to prerecord 600 hours of viewing. I want the model that screams at me to take the movie back to the store before I incur another late fee.

I don't want my coffee machine to make espresso or cappacino. I don't drink em, and have no desire to start in the near future. I want my coffee machine to gently remind me that I once again forgot to hit the timer button. Now that would be a useful function.

By this point you may be wondering what brought this on. Well, this morning my washing machine went into death throes. It's been a loyal, helpful machine for 15 years. Extra capacity Sears Kenmore, with the following four functions: pre-wash, delicate, cotton, and permanent press. I loved that washing machine. I could overload it, and it still cleaned my clothes. It had the only functions I could ever imagine needing. It had one minor repair made in those 15 years.

I knew this day would come. I've been preparing myself for it, but I didn't think it would feel this terrible. I have seen the new model washer and dryers. I know the horrors that await. Two hundred cycle options and a bubbly spaced aged design. Microchips that will burn out and and need replacing on a regular basis. *Shudder*

I'm waiting for a call back from my appliance magician (aka. the repairman). He will listen to her over the phone, and tell me if she's terminal. I know that this is a sad, last ditched attempt but I owe her that.

I can so relate to you and the love affair between yourself and the washer! I feel the same way about mine. *LOL* How did the phone call to the magician, any chance of a recovery? Hope the old girl still has a few years left in her. Wishing you the best.

The magician says that the old girl may have a few more years of life left in her. I'm so happy *G*. He'll be stopping by around 7 tonight to fix her. This man is truly a magician. He can diagnose any problem, with any appliance over the phone. His rates are reasonable, and he doesn't charge a diagnostic fee. If he comes to your home and he can't fix the appliance there is no charge. Truly wonderful!
