 I just don't understand how someone who claims.......

Elena= estimate: about 75% Italian (from Northern Italy), mostly + 15% French + 10% Spanish (from Central Spain) ...

then claims learned the English language in one 4 week course for librarians followed by another four week computer course when she was 20 years old. She is only 23 or 24. How can anyone write such good English in such a short time span?

Also I do recall Don7 and Elena being quite close. hmmmm, and she and Mitch have certainly hit it off. hmmmmmmm again.

When Elena first started posting, her English wasn't the greatest (but it was still better than what you'd think with that little exposure to it), and she had to have a lot of slang terms explained to her. She's gotten better over the months, and we actually have no idea how long it takes her to actually write something before she posts it. It might take her half an hour of searching for the right words and phrases. I'm playing devil's advocate here, 'cause you did bring up some good points.

I also remember when Elena first started to post and she really struggled with the language. She really must have an amazing ability with languages because you're right, her grammar and syntax are nearly perfect most of the time.

I think the reason Elena gets along with Mitch so well is because she hasn't picked on the any of the strangeness that's been going on with him!

I don't really think Don7 is Mitch, either. Although he would have been my second guess.

I think everyone is starting to get too suspicious ;-)

I, too, remember Elena when she started posting. Her English has come a long ways since then. Maybe she is a fast learner. Moreover, it is easier to detect deficiencies in speech than in writing.

I agree, too, that Elena is not picking up the subtle nuances in Mitch's posts. Subtle nuances are the hardest things for someone not completely fluent with the language.

I am okay with her, though I think she seems to need a lot of attention.

Elena's been around for a long time. Actually, I think she's older than 23/24....more like 30's?

There's no way she's anyone other than who she says she is. She's posted some extremely personal stuff regarding her marriage, battle with past depression, etc etc.......not stuff that anyone would go to the trouble of making up. And I too remember when her English/spelling/grammar wasn't very good...and she was often asking for clarification of words and such. Elena's a great lady, and very 'real', I think. As for learning English so quickly, I do believe that she learned the basics of it in 4 weeks, and over the years has been working on it more and more......

I don't think she is that old. She says she came to DP when she was 20, and has only been married 2 years and posted about meeting and marrying her husband on the board. I recall her saying she was only 23. I could be wrong. I didn't mean to impress she was an imposter, I like her style as well. The similarities to her connection to Don7 and Mitch just stuck me as odd as well as the increase in the amount of posts she's had since Mitch appeared and apparent support of him. But then again she is very friendly and I've never seen a negative post from her yet.
This is really consuming.

Don't even ask me how I know, but your correct Shannie. She is for real and she is also enjoying her new found friends in the forum which helps her improve on her English. She is a Sweetie Pie. But your wrong on the other threads Shannie, I actually think Mitch is Kevin jiving in Korea..LOL

I just wanted to say that I've come to know Elena and confessed my suspisions of her and how bad I felt. At that time anyone was a suspect in regards to Mitch and I think I got caught up in the game. She is one of the sweetest, genuine person and a true asset to know.
