Subject: How has everyone been?

My son went to the pool for the afternoon, so I commandeered his computer, and decided to check in on BT. I had to start a new topic because I haven't read DP in ages and have no clue about the Mitch palaver. *G*

How was everyone's holiday? Has anyone had any exciting turn of events in their lives in the past few weeks?

Moving hell is winding down, and while there is still lots left to do, it's now at a manageable level. I'm enjoying most of it, but I have a tendency to want to do too much in a day.

The study is still a work in progress. I did manage to get all the painted wallpaper off, but a lot of the undercoat of paint peeled off on the outside wall. I sanded the walls, but still wasn't happy with the outside wall. I ended up giving it a skim coat of plaster. The chair rail was an *interesting* color combination: lavender on top, pumpkin orange in the middle, and deep purple on the bottom. *SHUDDER* The baseboards and door frames were pumpkin orange and neon yellow. Two coats of primer later, I think I'm now ready to start painting. I think that pumpkin orange paint should *NOT* exist.

Life is good, and I hope you are all well and happy. I've missed being able to catch up on the latest here. It's now your duty to catch me up on the latest happenings.*G*

I have missed you! Glad all is going well with the move. I hate orange paint too! LOL

Well, I got a new job. Start it on the 9th. I am now a new brain surgeon. LOL I wish! No, I'm a custodian again, that is a world shaking job too! I am happy to have a job, just not real thrilled with the pay. I am going to vent a little bit here, so bare with me.....

My custodian job is in a school. Middle School to be exact. You don't have to have a high school diploma to get this job. Fine, no problem, but you do have pass a KBI and FBI check. Which I think is wonderful. If you work around or with children you should not be on the most wanted list. What pisses me off is....why not require a high school diploma? They should, then they wouldn't be so guilt free on paying you dirt! Isn't a clean enviroment for your children important? Isn't working your ass off worth something? Yeah, I know it isn't brain surgery we are talking about, but to me, who will again and have in the past gone into this job field, it is very important. I take pride in my work, always have...but to have to beg for more money out of someone really ticks me off. Oh, the up side, I get 12 paid sick days, 3 floating holidays to be taken at my choice, single policy insurance with a 10 buck copay and after I have been there a year, a week paid vacation.

Yeah, I'm depressed, pissed and in tears. Is it my hormones? My life in general or just the ravings of a nutcase? I want to be happy with my life.....

Sorry Dana, that may have been more than you were looking for, but this has been really bothering me since I won the job.

I can understand why you feel frustrated. We all want to feel appreciated for the jobs that we do, and that appreciation is usually in the form of salary.

I got to be friends with the custodian at my son's elementary school. I saw what his job entailed...custodian, teacher, mediator, handyman, etc. The kids adored him, and often would go to him for advice, cheering up, or just to talk. I had a lot of respect for what he did, and the pride he took in his work. I'm sure that you'll put that extra effort into your job too, which is why it feels so frustrating to be offered less compensation than the job really deserves.

I agree with Dawn that you should keep looking for other opportunities while working this job. It may be fine for the interim, but you need to enjoy what you do, and feel appreciated for the effort. If this job can't provide that, keep looking for another job that will. It's always easier to find a job when you already have one.

I hope things get better for you, hon. You've had a rough couple of months and are due for some good things to start happening. If I have any say in the matter, I'll make them start happening right away.

just needed to hear some kind and uplifting words from my friends. Thank you, you mean alot to me too! I just need to clean up after the pity party I threw myself and count my blessings. I know things will work out and I will keep looking for other things too. Just having a blue day and not wanting to be brave and needed a shoulder to cry on. Thanks for being here for me Dana, knew I could come here and you guys would understand.

It sounds like you're having a rough day Kim, I'm sorry about that. Congrat's on the new job but it doesn't seem like you're too enthused. Are you at the "at least it's a job" mode? I know this job came up right after the cafe closed, can you give yourself more time to seek what might suit you better? Can you still look while working? Keep your eyes open, something else may come up. I'm not sure I'd have the patience to deal with middle school aged kids. You are brave, but I'm sure they will love you just the same. Don't be so down, you got the first job that came along, who's to say there won't be another. Try to stay positive. Sounds like the perks are ok with this new job and that has to count for something right? Cheer up Kim, things have a way of working themselves out and often when we see something with hesitation, often turns out most prosperous. Good Luck in whatever comes your way.

Yes, you pegged it, I'm in the "its a job" mode. I think I just needed to here some kind words. Things are okay as far as John and I are concerned, the boys are doing well and I think I just need to count my blessings instead of boohooing about it. I know it will work out and love the fact that you have said that Dawn, John does that too! He is so easy going and nothing seems to get him down. Wish I had more of that in myself. I will keep my eyes open for other things too. thank you for listening and being here for me, I just needed someone to listen and a shoulder to cry on. You mean the world to me.

I've learned along the way the worrying and procrastination will get you no where. Stress will rob you in anyway it can. Things work out and when they do, I often wonder, what the hey I was so worried about? It's hard not too though at the best of times. Take a big sigh, look up in the sky and roll with it.((((((hugs))))))
