Two things. I posted to you yesterday at DP, but I should have done it here! It's about F.R.F.A. (Feline Rescue Foundation of Alberta) - I found their business card in the elevator at work yesterday and thought I'd pass on the info in case you want to help out (if you're not busy enough with BeeJoo).

Second, you've been on Workers Comp. for a while, right? What can you tell me about it? Easy to get? How much $$ do they give you (I'm assuming it's a percentage of your previous earnings?)? I don't know what I'm going to do, my arm hurts so much now I can't even brush my teeth, hold a book... lifting anything or typing for more than 5 minutes at a time is just out of the question. I'm thinking the only way I'm going to get away from computers is if I go back to retail... not bloody likely!!

Hi Jo,

Okay, I've read that post now, on DP re: that feline resc. association, thanks. Unfortunately, BeeJoo keeps me extremely busy (and in debt), and with school full time and now work, no time for nuttin....but should things change in the future, I'll keep them in mind..though in all honesty, now that I see how expensive vet care is in Calgary, I'll never be getting another cat, period. My two oldest are 8 and 9 yrs (and Taco/8, he's 24 lbs..at great risk for health problems).....I have to save my $ in case there are any health probs down the road.

Now, as for WCB....first of all, what's your situation exactly? You have several jobs and you're a student.....

Don't you have a business on the side doing web design or something? Are you paying WCB premiums/as an employer? If not, you're not eligible to be on claim with WCB for this RSI, related to THIS job of yours.

Now if you're working at other places, as an EMPLOYEE, your employer HAS to pay WCB premiums for you........so, if you file a claim with WCB under one of these employers, you could be eligible for 75% of your wages with them (or whatever particular employer you're filing your claim with/listing THEM as the employer..get what i'm saying?).......now, if you're working casual or on a contract basis, not sure how they calculate things. They usually request from that employer, your earnings for the PRIOR 12 months (they take an average)....and base the 75% on that.

Now because you have multiple employers (right?), it might be more complicated, because I don't think you can have more than one claim with more than one employer....so for example...say you work at ABC Services, on a casual or contract basis and make $15,000 a year (gross), they'll pay you (if your claim is accepted) 75% of that. But if you're also working at 123 Company and make $15,000 there, your 'accepted claim' will only cover you for the wages you'd lose at the employer you're naming in your WCB claim application form, etc.

Because this is an ongoing problem for you, this RSI, (ever had a claim with WCB for this in the past?, I'm thinking you haven't) they might give you a hard time about why you've never reported it until now.......particularly if your medical records show that you've been treated for it, had orthotics made for it, etc.........and they could also give you a hard time because they could say that a good portion of your keyboarding is related to your SCHOOLING (which of course, is non-compensable).

If you had only one employer, weren't a student, it would be a lot more straightforward.

Now I'm on WCB in BC. Here in Alberta, I've heard that they are a lot tougher......and they're getting even more tough, and fewer claims are accepted.

Your best bet would be to talk to your family physician and discuss with them, filing a WCB...they'll fill out their portion of the paperwork, you fill out yours..then submit it. It can take 6-8 wks (I'm assuming it's the same time period in AB) for them to review/accept/deny your claim. Your best bet would be to contact the 'general claims' department after about 3 weeks and ask them if your claim application has been processed yet and was there any decision made as to whether it was accepted.

Hope that helps,
Shan
