Good morning ladies! My prayer is that you are enjoying this season and remembering why it is that we have it! We are the reason. JESUS is the reason for the season, but We are the reason that HE came. Let's look at the WORD this morning.
Psalm 81:9 You shall have no foreign god among you; you shall not bow down to an alien god.
Ladies, within each of our heart's is a sin nature with the propensity that draws us to idolatry. When GOD inspired the Psalmist to write this verse HE knew that we would be an idolatrous people. When GOD gave Moses the law in the book of Exodus HE already knew that Israel, HIS chosen people, and We, HIS chosen people, would be idolaters. And yet, HE still tells us DO NOT DO THIS THING. Do not bow down to an alien god! Does it seem confusing. Does it make you want to ask, "Why GOD, if you know we are going to do this do YOU tell us not to do it?" I believe HE tells us NOT to do this because HE HAS given us the power NOT TO DO IT. You see, even though GOD knows we are drawn to idolatry HE knows that we don't have to give in to it. Let's look to Psalm 51 this morning. I want to share with you what I believe to be the secret to withstanding the draw of the idol.
Psalm 51:10 & 12 Create in me a pure heart, O GOD, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Restore to me the joy of YOUR salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.
Are you sitting there saying, "OK Vicky, what's the big deal...what's the big secret?" I believe with all of my heart the secret to having a heart that does NOT bow down to the alien god is having a heart made pure by ALMIGHTY GOD. "But Vick, how do you get this heart?" Ladies, we have to come to HIM and get on our faces before HIM and ask HIM to do what ONLY HE CAN do. You see, on our own we are NOT going to desire a pure heart; we are sinners. On our own we will NEVER have a heart willingly conformed to HIS LAW. We just won't. BUT GOD, gave us CHRISTMAS so that we could come to HIM and ask HIM to do in our heart's what ONLY HE CAN do.
Ladies, that is something to get all excited about! I wonder if you have come to the place where you realize that you cannot muster the desire to love the FATHER? Have you come to the place in your life where you recognize that loving HIM has little to do with you and EVERYTHING to do with HIM? Remember, we did not choose HIM...HE chose us. This is a mystery I will never understand because I think I am so unworthy, but HE CHOSE ME STILL! And ma'am, HE CHOSE YOU TOO! Would you be willing today to just surrender your whole heart to HIM. Would you be willing to drop to the knees of your heart right now and ask HIM to consume you with a desire for HIM. You see, if HE doesn't give it to you, you won't have it. Look back at verse 12. David said, "GRANT ME A WILLING HEART."
With all of my heart I believe this would be the most incredible gift you could give the LORD JESUS for HIS birthday this year. Ask HIM to grant you a willing heart!
