Good morning ladies! This morning as I have been with my FATHER I have had several of you specifically on my heart and mind. As I flipped from Psalm to Psalm this morning I came again to Psalm 77. I clearly remember in the fall of 2003 reading this Psalm and feeling like I was living in it...the first 9 verses of it anyway. I want to put this Psalm before you this morning and share with you a few thoughts. Knowing some of you personally and knowing the struggles that many of you face, I pray that this morning this will encourage your heart especially.
I cried out to GOD for help; I cried out to GOD to hear me. When I was in distress, I sought the LORD; at night I stretched out untiring hands and my soul refused to be comforted. I remembered YOU, O GOD, and I groaned; I mused, and my spirit grew faint. YOU kept my eyes from closing; I was too troubled to speak. I thought about the former days, the years of long ago; I remembered my songs in the night. My heart mused and my spirit inquired: "Will the LORD reject forever? Will HE never show HIS favor again? Has HIS unfailing loved vanished forever? Has HIS promised failed for all time? Has GOD forgotten to be merciful? Has HE in anger withheld HIS compassion?"
I wonder if you find yourself trapped inside the thoughts of the above verses? Do you find yourself thinking that you shouldn't be thinking this way? Are you wondering where is your faith? Ma'am, you are not a lone soldier in this battle. Many before you have struggled with these thoughts. Many before you have stood at the foot of the cross and have cried out, "GOD WHERE ARE YOU & WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" Can I tell you this morning that it is perfectly acceptable to bring your REAL heart to the FATHER and tell HIM how you feel? It is OK to ask honest sincere questions. It is OK to be a real person with real feelings. Our Bible is replete with examples of folks who got frustrated, felt defeated, and wanted to give up at times. I have to tell you that I am thankful that GOD gave us a book of REAL PEOPLE when HE gave us HIS WORD to follow. If you find yourself today wondering when things might turn around for you...when you might feel some relief I want to encourage you this morning. I can't tell you when your situation will change, I cannot even promise you that it will, BUT I can tell you that YOUR GOD has not abandoned you. Can you imagine how Daniel must have felt in the Lion's Den, Joseph in the Egyptian prison, David in the cave. Ladies, HOLD ONTO WHAT YOU HAVE KNOWN TO BE TRUE IN THE LIGHT. Let's look to the rest of the chapter this morning...let's look at what the Psalmist did when he felt rejected, and abandoned, and uncomforted by his GOD.
Psalm 77:20 Then I thought, "To this I will appeal: the years of the right hand of the MOST HIGH." I WILL remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I WILL remember YOUR miracles of long ago. I WILL MEDITATE ON YOUR WORKS AND CONSIDER ALL YOUR MIGHTY DEEDS. YOUR ways, O GOD, are holy. What god is so great as our GOD? YOU are the GOD who performs miracles; YOU display YOUR power among the peoples. With YOUR mighty arm YOU redeemed YOUR people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. The waters saw YOU, O GOD, the waters saw YOU and writhed; the very depths were convulsed. The clouds poured down water, the skies resounded with thunder; YOUR arrows flashed back and forth. YOUR thunder was heard in the whirlwind, YOUR lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked. YOUR path led through the sea, YOUR way through the mighty waters, THOUGH YOUR FOOTPRINTS WERE NOT SEEN. YOU led YOUR people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
There are a lot of things in the above verses that get my attention, but the thing that really struck me this morning is verse 19. YOUR path led through the sea, YOUR way through the mighty waters, THOUGH YOUR FOOTPRINTS WERE NOT SEEN. Do you feel like you can't see HIM anywhere? No matter how hard you try you just can't seem to find a trace of HIM. The children of Israel couldn't see HIM EITHER, but they kept on putting one foot in front of the other and they reached the other side of the Red Sea. I imagine that Joseph must have wondered where HE was, but he kept on getting up morning after morning and after many years he found himself 2nd in command in the House of Pharaoh. Ladies, stop for just a minute and take a look back...REMEMBER what HE has done in the past. REMEMBER HIS faithfulness through prior difficulties. HE WILL NOT LEAVE YOU...HE WILL NOT ABANDON YOU!
This is what the FATHER spoke to my heart this morning to share with you. I hope you have been encouraged. I hope that if you find yourself today in a sea of doubt and wonder that you will stop and remember that even when you can't trace HIS hand, YOU CAN ALWAYS TRUST HIS HEART.
