Good morning sweet ladies! I would like to look at Isaiah 42 this morning. Before I get started, can I say again that I just love the way HIS WORD works together. I love it when HE speaks to my heart from HIS WORD. I love the fact that today it might speak to one thing and tomorrow it might say something different. Why is this so? Because HIS WORD is living and active; and ladies, if you allow it to penetrate your heart and life HE WILL CHANGE YOU. Notice that I said HE will change you...this WORD is GOD.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the WORD and the WORD was with GOD and the WORD WAS GOD. HE was with GOD in the beginning.
This book that we call the Bible is THE LORD JESUS in writing. Grasp that thought for just a minute. So much of what I read in Isaiah this morning caused my heart to be drawn to other places in the WORD. Please take some time to allow HIM to infiltrate your heart and life...you do this by spending time getting the WORD on the inside of your heart and life.
Let's move on to Isaiah 42:16-17, 20, & 23-24.
I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them. BUT those who trust in idols, who say to images, "You are our gods,' will be turned back in utter shame.
You have seen many things, but have paid no attention; your ears are open, but you hear nothing. Which of you will listen to this or pay close attention in time to come? Who handed Jacob over to become loot, and Israel to the plunderers? Was it not the LORD, against whom we have sinned? For they would not follow HIS ways; they did not obey HIS law.
Ladies, what I see here is very clear to me. We have two choices. We can either choose to follow our FATHER (this might include following HIM into some places that seem dark and scary), OR we can choose to follow idols that we create in our lives. Let's stop for a second here and think about that word IDOL. An Idol is ANYTHING that we try to put in the place where only GOD belongs. It can be a GOOD THING, but it will be an idol if you are trying to find satisfaction from it. It could be your family, your ministry, your work; ANYTHING THAT WE PUT WHERE ONLY GOD BELONGS. You see, ONLY HE can truly satisfy your deepest heart longings. Everything else will lead to dissatisfaction and eventually utter shame. In verses 16 HE says that HE will lead HIS people and HE will NOT forsake them. (HE WILL...I've heard that a lot this week!) BUT verse 17 is a strong warning: Those who trust in idols will be turned to utter shame. And then if we drop down to the other verses I mentioned HE talks to us about having eyes that see but don't pay attention; ears that hear, but don't respond to what we hear. Ladies, this is a dangerous place to be. When GOD speaks to our hearts we had better be wise enough to respond. Look at verse 24. HE tells us here that HE handed HIS people over to be looted and plundered. Why did HE do that? Because of the sin in their lives. Ladies, earlier in this chapter HE clearly states that HE WILL NOT GIVE HIS GLORY TO ANOTHER AND HE WILL NOT GIVE HIS PRAISE TO IDOLS. This chapter clearly tells us that our GOD is a jealous GOD and HE is jealous FOR US and HE will allow us to be plundered and looted if that is what it takes to get us to turn our hearts fully to HIM. Having experienced this plundering first hand, I would like to encourage you to turn you heart fully to HIM before it becomes necessary in your life. Over and over through out HIS WORD HE tells us that if we will follow HIM and obey HIM, HE WILL bless us; but ladies, if we CHOOSE our own idols then we are headed for discipline and a time of looting and plundering. Let me say this morning that if HE DOES NOT hold the place of preeminence in your heart then somewhere YOU HAVE ERECTED AN IDOL. Take some time today and ask HIM to examine your heart and life and show you what it is and then begin immediately tearing that down in your life. ONLY HE CAN SATISFY THE LONGINGS IN YOUR HEART. We erect idols in an attempt to satisfy ourselves. We can't do it! HE created us in such a way that ONLY HE can fill that void. I wonder this morning would you be willing to stop now and go to your knees and ask HIM to examine you?
