Good morning ladies! My heart was particularly drawn to Psalm 81 this morning. This was not the only place I was today, but for some reason I keep going back. Let's look at this Psalm and see what the FATHER has for us today. I hope that you will take some time on your own today and get into HIS WORD and ask HIM to speak clearly and apply it to your heart. I believe this is something we should all do REGULARLY! Let's look at Psalm 81:6-16. HE says, "I removed the burden from their shoulders; their hands were set free from the basket. In your distress you called and I rescued you, I answered you out of a thundercloud; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Hear, O MY people, and I will warn you--if you would but listen to me, O Israel! You shall have no foreign god among you; you shall not bow down to an alien god. I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I WILL FILL IT. BUT MY people would not listen to ME; Israel would not submit to ME. So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices. If MY people would but listen to ME, If Israel would follow MY ways, how quickly would I subdue their enemies and turn MY hand against their foes! Those who hate the LORD would cringe before HIM, and their punishment would last forever, BUT YOU WOULD BE FED WITH THE FINEST OF WHEAT; WITH HONEY FROM THE ROCK I WOULD SATISFY YOU."
Let's go first to the center of this passage, verses 10-12. I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I WILL FILL IT. BUT MY people would not listen to ME; Israel would not submit to ME. So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices. Ladies, we must realize that our GOD has set us free, but we remain in freedom by CHOOSING to come to HIM and hear HIM and willingly follow HIM. When we choose NOT to do this we will end up following our own devices.
I began at verse 6 in this Psalm because I love the imagery that it displays for us. You see, I don't believe that many of us (perhaps none of us) have ever actually been literal slaves in the sense that the Israelites were slaves, but ladies, every one of us was a slave when the LORD JESUS set us free at the point of salvation. You were carrying a heavy burden on your shoulders and your hands were fastened to a heavy basket of bricks. On the day that you came to the place where you realized that you were a sinner in need of a Savior the LORD JESUS set you free. What I find myself wondering today is whether or not you have chosen to walk in that freedom. You see, I spent an extra 17 years in bondage AFTER I was saved. I continued to carry a burden that HE had released me from the responsibility of carrying. Why did I do this? I think part of it was because I didn't know how to put it down. I believe that we put the burden down when we come morning after morning to HIS WORD and ask HIM to speak to our hearts and teach us and challenge us. Ladies, if we never take the time to come to HIM how in the world can we hear HIM? How can we follow HIM?
Ma'am, can I encourage you this morning to lay down that heavy burden and come to the LORD JESUS this morning and ask HIM to show you how to walk today. This is a prayer HE longs to answer in your life. HE wants to lead you to the place of satisfaction, but you must come to the table to get satisfied.
FATHER, give us hearts that recognize our need for you and then give us steadfast determination to come to you regardless of anything else in our day. I am asking you to teach each lady how to follow you. Open our eyes that we might see YOU, open our ears to hear YOU clearly, open our hearts to understand and obey YOU. Thank you that I can come and lift these ladies, and know that YOU are interested in our lives and that YOU have a plan for each of us. O FATHER, give us hearts consumed with knowing YOU and committed to following YOU anywhere, anytime.
In YOUR MOST HOLY and AWESOME NAME I ask these things. AMEN!
Ladies, I am glad that you came this morning and my prayer is that you will begin to seek HIM with a fresh fervency today. I am here if I can help you in any way.
