I find myself this morning wondering about my attitude towards those who have wronged me. How do we respond to those who sin against us? What is our reaction when we are being pursued by "wicked and evil" people? Do you try to figure out a way to see to it that they are "brought to justice," or do you take it to the LORD and leave it with HIM. You see ladies, I believe that too often we want to see justice IMMEDIATELY, and we are not willing to wait on the LORD. I wonder if maybe some of those treating us wrongly might be saved if our reaction and our attitude was a little more like JESUS. As I read Psalm 140 this morning I asked myself and the LORD, "Is this how I respond when I perceived myself to be sinned against?" Let's look at the chapter.
Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence, who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day. They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent's; the poison of vipers in on their lips. Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet. Proud men have hidden a snare for me; they have spread out the cords of their net and have set traps for me along my path. O LORD, I say to YOU, "YOU are my GOD." Hear, O LORD, my cry for mercy. O SOVEREIGN LORD, my strong deliverer, who shields my head in the day of battle--do not grant the wicked their desires, O LORD; do not let their plans succeed, or they will become proud.
When you are being "attacked" by the wicked and evil men of our day, do you stop and pray and ask GOD to protect you and keep you safe; OR do you get angry and try to figure out a way to get even? Ladies, we all do it. We all react quickly with anger and frustration about the seeming injustices in our lives. Proverbs 20 tells us NOT to look for vengeance, but to wait on the LORD. If you stop and think about the life of our LORD JESUS you will notice that HE did not retaliate when folks treated HIM badly. EVEN ON THE CROSS HE WAS ASKING FOR FORGIVENESS FOR THOSE WHO SINNED AGAINST HIM. I have asked the FATHER to search my heart this morning and show me who I am holding a grudge against and am asking HIM to give me the grace to pray for those folks. Ladies, I am not suggesting that it is easy to pray for those who have wronged you, but I do believe in order for us to live the lives we have been called to live it is mandatory! Praying for those who have sinned against us might not change them, but it will change our hearts' towards them.
I will leave you this morning with Proverbs 20:27 The Lamp of the LORD searches the spirit of a man; it searches out his inmost being.
Won't you ask the FATHER today to search your heart and show you who you need to be praying for?
