Subject: the parade of the wooden soldiers
In reply to: Leonora 's message, "Christmas single" on 06:21:30 11/23/04 Tue

"in the bleak midwinter"- sounds exactly like christmas, for anybody who isn't in love, isn't at home, isn't by a roaring fire; but can remember too chiefly when they were.almost the perfect piece of music. the Salvation Army played it at Paddington station last Christmas. The world froze; a crack appeared in the sky;fairytales came and held my hand.

All of Spectors christmas album obviously
"I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus" the beatles version is immense.i found it on the internet once.lennon is clearly sniggering in the background.even paul macartney cant ruin christmas.

"tender" by blur should have been a christmas song

I wasn't counting carols. "in the bleak midwinter" is beautiful. don't think I'm going to be in Cambridge to hear the carols at Kings but must must go one year because I have a feeling it must be one of the most wonderful things in the world.

Don't like Mistletoe and Wine much. Think I've been overexposed to it. White Christmas definitely though. Temporarily forgot about that (blame tiredness). and I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus is great.

I don't know...I think plastic Santa Clauses have ruined most Christmas songs for me. most of them feel rather fake.

I don't worship Jesus so the carols don't do much for me really. And clearly, none of you have ever worked in retail or you would hate all of these songs as much as me because you would have been forced to listen to them on repeat, for eight hours a day from October to January. Unless you work in Foyles. I repeat, Fairy Tale of New York. Only good one..

I don't worship him either. Doesn't stop them being beautiful though.

Apparently they played Francesca in TopShop the other day.

Mind you, you would have to reconcile yourself to working in TopShop in order to obtain that standard of music.

It was working in Miss Selfridge that scarred me in the first place. And how can carols be beautiful if you think they are fundamentally wrong. Thou shalt not worship false idols. Or something.

From the woman who sings "For Those In Peril On The Sea" when on choppy boat rides, I think that's a bit rich.

I know who put you up to this and Kate Baker, you are sooooo dead. As you well know It was a very near death situation and it seemed a good time to give god a try. Top tip kids: never go on a high powered speed boat across the South China Sea in a monsoon.

Sorry, it was me who wrote about the boat

But this board is a bit confusing at the best of times

I was there, and scary it was

And I like that hymn
