Come and join the University of Pittsburgh Golden Girls in a 30 - year tradition of Glamour and Glitz. Auditions will be in April and June for the opportunity to join the pageantry of nationally ranked college football. Additionally, we are having an early audition February 23, 2003. Candidates selected at this audition will have the opportunity to join the Golden Girls in a return trip to national competition this summer.
The 2002 season kicked off with the Home-opener against University of Alabama at Heinz Field, a state of the art stadium shared with the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers. In October, we hit the road for Chicago before traveling to South Bend, IN to face off with the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. It’s important to note that while traveling with the University of Pittsburgh Department of Athletics, all expenses are paid and you even get SPENDING Money for incidentals. The winning season concluded in December with a trip to Phoenix, AZ to the Insight Bowl (our third consecutive Bowl trip). The girls flew with the University to enjoy sun and fun as they performed for the Bowl Game festivities. Pitt brought home a win to conclude an action packed victorious season.
Due to their high public visibility, the girls were sponsored this year by MAC cosmetics. The girls were especially glamourous at each and every game thanks to the artful talents of the MAC cosmetic team. The squad enjoyed performing at several publicity events on behalf of MAC, as well as several other civic events. In addition, the “Golden Girls” are also active with many charity events, including the Veterans and School for the Blind.
To be a “Golden Girl”, you should be versatile and proficient in both dance and twirling. In the spring season the squad competes in many NBTA (National Baton Twirling Association), TU (Twirling Unlimited), and Tournament of Bands competitions. We have proudly captured the NBTA “Grand National/World College half-time” title four times. Although the University does not offer a solo feature twirler position, we showcase individual talent on the squad with solo spots during our shows. The “Golden Girls” consist of many nationally ranked solo twirlers, we also offer one on one coaching for those that are not of that caliber.
