The Beat were a punky-reggae group. Ska, for us, was a springboard, not a straightjacket.

Having got fed up of every ska group having a brass section, cos they felt they had to, I worked without any brass for a while.

I now have a sax player, Fernando Jahtivo. He's been with us for about 6 shows now, and people like him a lot.

Also been talking to Saxa on the phone this last couple of weeks. He is a wonderful person, and although his body is tired, his spirit still shines beautifully. He's asked me to get him his Chinese herbs to give enough energy to tour America one more time with me! It's a longshot, but we're going to see what we can do.

Then all I'd need would be a trombone, a trumpet, and a box of silly hats, and "I could be the leader of a big ska band"!

I think you'll enjoy Red Devil Lounge, and i look forward to seeing you there. If you get the chance, come and say "hello".

Cheers,

Dave
