Re. Academy in the UK gig - Birmingham Carling Academy - 01/05/05

Can everybody on here not just those attending the gig please email these 2 people who work for Birmingham Carling Academy to protest about the stupid no re-admittance rule. This is the 2nd year they have done this at this gig and it makes for a very uncomfortable evening. i know of several local people who are not going to this gig because of this

richard@birmingham-academy.co.uk steve@academy-music-group.co.uk

I have mailed them to protest about this policy. Below is the reply I had:

Dear Chris,

May I apologise for the delay in responding to your email. I had every
intention of replying to you on Saturday when I was working, however, our
email has been down across the site & group since approximately 02.00am on
Friday night / Saturday morning. In fact the problem was only sorted out
late last night.

I am sorry it has taken so long for you to get a formal response to you
query. The Academy in The UK event is following the same format as it did
last year. We received a very small number of complaints regarding our no
readmission policy last year and therefore with the agreement of the
promoter we decided the continue with the same format for the event. We can
make special arrangements for customers with specific requirements when and
where possible which is what I will suggest to you later in the response.

The event itself as you are aware is advertised accurately with the detail
of no readmission on our website and on the tickets. It should be also be
detailed on the advertising for the event. This does therefore inform
customers of the fact prior to purchase. Although I concede that the event
is long in duration many customers only arrive between 6-7 for the main acts
and are therefore only in the building for a maximum of 6-8 hours, obviously
others are there for the day. Many of the country's other punk all-dayers /
weekenders are as you are clearly aware take place in and around unique
sites such as seaside resorts and the venues are clearly sprawling and allow
for greater freedom of movement and relaxation. Our venue as you are also
clearly aware is a concert venue that does not allow for such movement.

We have discussed this situation since you original email with the promoter
and agreed that we will produce a area outside the front of the building
that will allow customers access to a seat in a secure area. Although this
will not allow customers to leave it will allow customers the opportunity to
relax for a period of time in the fresh air on a comfortable seat.

With regard to your specific health problem we will be able to make a seat
for you and a friend available in our disabled viewing area so you will be
able when required to see the show in comfort.

This issue is something we will monitor this year and bear in mind when
discussing how we proceed with Academy in the Uk 2006. We want the event to
be successful and also to be a date in all punk fans diary but more
importantly enjoyable for the customers attending.

Once again please accept my apology for the slow response to your query.
Please can you make yourself known to me and Fraser on the day by informing
security you would like to see us and we will come to see you and ensure you
are made comfortable on the day.

Regards

Richard Maides

Disregard my 'specific health problem' lol I was hoping that my bad back and dodgy knee lol might change his mind. The guy says he had a small number of complaints last year and is monitoring the situation. This year I hope everybody mails them to complain. Obviously I do not want a disabled seat as I am not disabled and want to stand with my friends anyhow. This seat out the front thing doesn't wash because if they are full you can't use em same as the limited seats inside. I think there are only around 300 seats in the venue for 2500 people. The guy says most punters only come in for 6/7 hours. That's long enough without a sit down. We should be able to come and go from the venue freely like at other all day events. I am missing bands I want to see because of this and bands far down on the bill won't be playing to many fans as no-one wants to be locked in for 12 hours. It's just blatant profiteering on the Academys part ie. you can't get out so you'll have to spend your dough in here. And they don't even give you a seat!

I am gonna post this on the sites of all the bands playing at the gig. It won't change this years policy but maybe they'll see sense next year.

Here's hoping most of you agree with this and mail the 2 guys above.

Regards

Chris
