Yes I was there too, and there was an unexpected amount of violence. The implication seems to be that Bad Manners somehow inflamed the crowd, which is unfair. I've seen both BM and The Beat at a lot of different (and dodgy) venues across the Midlands and I have never seen a single punch thrown. However, Saturday night was different. The dynamic of the crowd was much more blokey, there was a lot of alcohol and testosterone flowing, and the Wulfrun was packed.

Some of the fighting did indeed involve Wolves hooligans who were present in numbers, and really let the City down. The were a number of incidents during The Beat set before Roger sensibly stopped proceedings, but the worst things happened outside. It didn't quite ruin it, but it didn't improve it either. I can only offer my apologies to any one from out of town who had a bad experience. My town let me down. Sorry.

The unfortunate thing was that The Beat sounded tight, and the Rankings were on top form. The band were top class, but the crowd were less consistent performers. Oh well.

Remember, if you're off to see The Beat: "We will have no fighting in the love and unity concert." Ranking Roger, 4th December, 2004. Merry Christmas Beats!
