I class sexism as prejudice/discrimination from one sex against the other primarily through the use of derogatory statements, often perpetuating stereotypes of specific gender roles.

This usually takes the form of saying that one sex can't do, or that it isn't there place to do, a certain something. It would be true to say, that generally BUT not always, the prejudice/discrimination comes from men directed against women.

Examples of sexist statements would be:

"Football, it's a man's game innit. Women can't play football"

"Bloody women drivers!!"

"A woman's place is in the kitchen"

"You can't have women in the Army!"

"Why do men ALWAYS leave the toilet seat up?"

If Fat Mike had said something like "Women have no place in Punk Rock" then that would be blatantly sexist, but he didn't and so he isn't. I'm struggling to find more examples of women being sexist but i'll think about it over lunch.
