Subject: More Updates on the WITS situation

Well, I have the daily update on the status of getting WITS back up and running.

I've been corresponding with Network Solutions (who my domain name was originally registered through) and Readyhosting, my old webhost. This is what I've been able to find out, and a lot of it is just a mess at the moment.

Readyhosting registered my domain last year when I first signed up for hosting. They were supposed to reregister it again this year, automatically; however, they didn't. It expired on March 6. The domain name is currently locked though, so no one else can register it.

Before I became aware that the domain name had not been renewed, I decided to switch from readyhosting to a different host. So, I need to transfer the domain name account (which is currently a wholesale account through readyhosting) to a retail account which I have personal control of. Also, further complicating everything, I moved in September of 03, and while I updated my contact information with Readyhosting, they did not update it with Network Solutions.

This is where things get messy. One of the support people at Network Solutions says I should get my wholesale, readyhosting, to register the domain name and update my contact info, then make the switch. Readyhosting says the form they sent me to make the switch, which I faxed in today with supporting documents--such as utility bills before and after the move and photo ID--should work to switch the account type from wholesale to retail, even though the name expired. They apparently won't renew the domain because I cancelled hosting with them and they claim that the form should do it... The readyhosting person did apologize for the mess, but I'm still ticked off at the moment.

I'm hoping that with a few more phone calls, I'll be able to get this mess straightened out. Best case scenario, we're up and running again by early next week. Worst case scenario... Expired domains are held locked for 45 days, so it would be mid-April before I could reregister it. I know that I could just pick a different domain name, but I really really really really love the domain name and don't want to lose it, so for personal reasons, if I have to wait the 45 days from March 6 to get it back, then I'll wait. I hope everyone understands that. I love you all and I love WITS, but with as much money as I spend a year to keep it running, I feel that I have the liberty of waiting for the damned domain name if I have to...

Aww! I totally understand that you want to wait if this is unable to be resolved before the 45 day holding period is up. I'll be here and waiting though :)
