Greetings again...

Yeah guys.. I don't have anything else to do but to surf the web... right!! LOL

Well... here it is, even though I cover this part on the Internet tools class, it wise to use an online discussion group or list or forum. Therefore, I am strongly recommended that you read the information below. Once your read it, think about establishing a list or a forum for your English class (the grade/level you were assigned in class).

The next step is to write a statement about the use of the online discussion group/forum where you state the purpose, what are your expectations and of course, assessment measurements.

Even though this is from The Subject Centre for History, Classics & Archaeology web site, it gives you ideas on how to set a discussion group. The document is in PDF so you need to have the Acrobat Reader installed on your PC. You can find Online discussion groups: How to set them up at http://hca.ltsn.ac.uk/resources/Briefing_Papers/bp8.pdf
From the same site, you can check Introducing Electronic Bulletin Boards by Dr. Julian Goodare.

The other document is from the PMFORUM. A discussion list primer talks about setting up a discussion list where it goes explaining the do's and don'ts and other aspects of handling a list. It is about 10 pages long when printed.

Diane Thompson published in Computers and composition (7(3), August 1990, 43-53) Electronic Bulletin Boards:
A Timeless Place for Collaborative Writing Projects. Look how far back she wrote this article wheren electronic BB were DOS based and text only. Some of the things she said still valid for today's electronic BBs.

So, there you have it. Enjoy surfin the net..... and taking advantage of it. But remember, NOT EVERYTHING is on the Web and you need to know that and remind your students too. You still need to use regular printed resources found at the library and bookstores.

Ivan
