Jerene:

There is a beautiful and interesting reading in the fifth grade book (Explore) titled "Adiós Falcón". The text is in both English and Spanish, one page in English, and then follows the same in Spanish, so on and so forth. It has nearly 10 pages. Since the book is relatively new (three yrs?), most probably your students never had the chance to read it. I have the audio recording, so if you bring in a blank tape I can make a copy for your classroom. I could also bring you copies of the reading for you to make copies at school (well, I believe this will be the hard part...we have been without photocopier since the beginning of this semester at our school...imagine!). My experience has been great using this reading, and I am sure your students will enjoy it as well! This reading will fit your limited English proficiency students' needs, even though it is intended for fifth graders...in the United States! So, IMPO this reading could be useful to catch the attention of your LEP secondary level students as well.

I am sure many of our colleagues in the public education system will agree with me that the books we are supposed to use with our very LEP elementary school students are way too advanced for our students.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Brumi
