Subject: Harpers Ferry Outdoor Festival and Tim Gavin Downriver Race

June 19th we will be hosting the 12th Annual Tim Gavin Downriver Race on the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers. We will also be having an attainment race and possibly a long boat squirt competition @ the deep eddyline @ Whitehorse. If you have friends that are non kayakers or canoeists but want to participate, we have our 3rd Annual Amateur raft race for the Harpers Ferry Cup, and a year of bragging rights. Simply pull together your team of 4 folks and pre register with one of our 3 local outfitters, River & Trail, River Riders, or Butts Tubes. They will "computer assign" you a guide and all the gear to race. Racers will get a fest t-shirt and entrance to the festival.
The Harpers Ferry Outdoor Festival will be following all of the races, we have vendors on hand, both food and product. 5 live bands will be playing all day and evening. We have a huge silent auction, 40 sponsors right now. A small sampling of items: Pyranha has offered up a boat of choice, Burn, Molan, Karnali, Everest[ sorry, no Speeder's] Pentax Optio 60, Jacks Plastic, Snap Dragon, Skirtworks, IR, Otter & Pelican Box, Teva, throwbags, elbow pads, knives, plastic welders, guidebooks, Doug Ammons books, ASCI passes, Precision Rafting for 2 on the Upper Yough, Sweet Helmet, camping for 4 @ Teters for 2011 Cheat Fest, NRS, AND MORE.
All proceeds raised are donated each year to benefactors we have chosen on behalf of our friend Tim Gavin who drowned on the Upper Blackwater River March 29, 1998. They are Friends of the Blackwater, Cheat, Shenandoah & WVRC. This year we will go over the $30,000.00 mark in donations to these wonderful organizations as they work hard to keep WV Wild and Wonderful!
