Subject: Cleaned Your Camelbak Lately

Recently I broke down and cleaned my camelbaks. I got 3. Yeah 3. Skiing, Hiking, Biking. Anyway, I broke down and cleaned them. Man, what a bunch of crap I got out of them. Now, don't get me wrong. I clean them yearly. But I was amazed at how bad they had gotten. I got some major gunk out of the hose of my bladder especially. Then I realized that there are probaly some of you that have never cleaned your bladders. I feel very bad for you.
But what is the best way to clean your bladders and hoses. I use denture cleaner. Yep, Polident or something like it. I tear my bladder apart. Put two tablets in the bladder and let it soak, I put the angle and mouth piece in a cup with just enough water to cover it and put a tablet in there.
I also purchased the cleaning kit they sell. The big brush is nice, but that little pipe cleaner looking brush is a gift from heaven. It works wonderfully for cleaning your hose. I highly recommend this brush. I use Q-Tips to clean the gunk out of the elbow and the mouth pieces. I dip them in alcohole and scrub away.

Here are some other methods I have heard of. How about baking soda, and rice. Put the two in your camelbak and shake, shake, shake. The rice acts as a abrasive. This is great for the bladder, but not the hose. You need that little brush again.

When your done, rinse the whole thing with mouthwash. It leaves a minty taste in your bladder. Not the taste of the cleaning products. The denture cleaners do this on their own.

If you haven't cleaned your camelbak or whatever kind of carrier you use to carry water. DO IT NOW. Trust me, it will need it.
