Many members of the Boggs family are searching for a supposed link to the Lowland Livingstons based on oral and written history. A biographicl sketch of William Ellison Boggs, Chancellor of the Univ. of Georgia from 1889 to 1899, published by the Univ. in 1899, referred to ancestors named Livingston who came to Ireland from Scotland due to political unrest. According to this and other family legends, two brothers, John and Hugh Livingston came to Londonderry, Ireland, in the early to mid 1600s. Family history says they settled in an area of peat bogs, and became known as John/Hugh Livingston of Boggs, then John/Hugh Livingston Boggs. Some stories claim they purposely adopted the Boggs name to avoid problems with the English. My research has found John Livingston b.7/25/1622 and Hew Livingston b. 10/11/1619, in Falkirk, Stirling. Parents were Alex Boggs and Isabel Hunter. This fits the "history". Would appreciate any info re Alex Livingston of Falkirk Stirling. (Note: his name is shown in the Church records as "Alex" not Alexander).
