I worked in air traffic control at Fayid and had arranged to be on this Hastings when it went on an air test. At the last minute, when a colleague and I were walking to the aircraft to get aboard I was called to the Tower. We signaled to the pilot that we would not be able to fly and proceeded to report to the tower. When we reported we were told no one from the tower had called! We stayed in the control tower to watch the Hastings take off and were still there when we heard the 'Mayday' call and the aircraft crashed.
