Subject: Air Commodore Leonard Birchall - 'The Saviour of Ceylon'

There is a photograph of Air Commodore Leonard Birchall, CM, OBE, DFC,OO, CD, (of the Royal Canadian Air Force) dubbed by Winston Churchill as the 'Saviour of Ceylon' being awarded the OBE and the DFC at the Embassy of Ceylon in Washington DC, USA on April 29, 1949. In the picture is Sir Claude Corea, Ceylon's Ambasador to Washington.

The newspaper photograph is from the Ceylon Daily News in 1949.
