Subject: Nevasa

we sailed on the nevasa en route to singapore in either 59 or 60..I would be 6-7 years old...I remember the journey to southhampton, i still love the smell of steam trains...the big buffalo horns over the dining room doors..the band playing..a bandsman called Fred who was very tolerant of noisy kids, going through suez and seeing camels..the military band playing..bombing portugese men-o -war with pepsi bottles..stopping off at aden and al the boat traders swarming at the portholes..finally arriving at singapore..stopping at a hotel en route to RAF Seletar and get stung by red ants on our first night on the island..
