Subject: Hastings TG610

While a student on 242 OCU at Thorney Island I witnessed this aircaft crashing. It was doing a training sortee with a OCU captain. After a simulated 3 engine approach the "idled" engine did not respond when power was applied for the usual "touch and go", and veered off the runway, sadly fatally injuring a Sgt in the ground radio hut. I think the trainee captain was Flt Lt Brown? and the training captain Flt Lt Ireland?
Although a latecomer to the Hastings fleet, I well rember a situation on take-off from Benson during a stream take-off when we were caught in a slipstream and it was the skill of Flt Lt Roger Jones that saved the day for us all then. Is this the same Roger Jones you are still in contact with? I also had the pleasure of subsequently flying with Harry Liddell on the VC10.

I have just received an email from Mike Lewington, son of Flt Sgt who died in the crash on my section AIR RADIO SERVICING FLIGHT.
