I hope Miss Mary narrows down the dissatisfied national contestant by these posts and calls you directly with your concerns and addresses them with you in private. I think it is unfair to the other contestants and winners to cause this much stink over this national. Many h/m spouses judge this happened at ECUSA this weekend as well. Many directors give discounts for last minute entrants especially when the numbers are low. And as far as awarding extra titles maybe the numbers were higher in that division or the score between two girls extremely close and she thought it was only fair to give a mini-supreme in that case. There could be several reasons for awarding an extra supreme. I think you should call her and address all of your concerns directly with her instead of posting on boards your dissatisfaction. When you do things in this manner it undermines every winner there. Just like all nationals things occur. I have been at one of Mary's pageants and an absolutely gorgeous little girl that wins nationally everywhere got lower scores than a prelim girl just starting out. Her mother was gracious and said, "you know, it just wasn't her day with the judges" and I will never forget how that mother handled what must have been a tremendous let-down for her and after the pageant, she moved on and not one word of bashing was posted on the boards, she is a class-act! Not every pageant is for everybody. If you feel things were not right, talk to Mary and address it and then you have the choice to do this pageant or not in the future. Mary does not get huge numbers so she cannot afford circuit judges and the judges she has probably have, did and will make mistakes in their scoring of children. Everyone has a different perception of a child's beauty and ability on stage and that is what the scores reflect, a judges perception of your child on a particular day. I am sorry that you seem to be so upset over this but the best way to handle this is to talk to Mary personally. If you really feel justified with your concerns take it to her and let her know and I am sure in the future she'll take what you have said to heart and try to correct whatever you felt was wrong this year. I hope she ignores these posts and gives the winners their "moment" by posting her 2004 winners soon. I will be back next year when I can recompete and guess what, win or lose, I will remember the gracious national winning mom who showed me how to handle a loss with a lot of grace and dignity. We could all learn a lot from her!
