Airbrush paints are thinner, so they won't work for hand painted nail art, but they are the same paints basically, just acrylic paints thinned to the desired consistency with water.

For hand painted nail art, any acrylic craft paint will work! Just remember to let it dry till "dull" then cover with a good, thick, quality top coat, being sure to float it on over the art work (just as you would in airbrushing).

I buy my nail art paint at the local craft stores (garden stores such as Franks, or fabric stores such as JoAnnes, etc), when on sale you can get them for only a dollar each sometimes. As for brushes you'll need a striper (long, thin bristles), a shader (flat square), and a few sizes of detailers (small, pointed), plus a stylus for dots, and yhou're ready to go. (Some you can get at the craft store, the rest through your nail supply house or mail order)

Flip through old Nails and Nailpro magazines for step-by-steps on different designs to get you started.
