Earl, things must have changed since I imported my cooker last spring then.

The 17 digit alpha numeric VIN is all that is needed along with the invoices from the manufacturer.
It is a good idea to call OUR DOT to verify that it is a valid VIN once you have received your VIN from the MFG.
This can all be done over the telephone.

The compliance sticker you mentioned will be sent to you from the Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV) and that isn't possible until you have taken the unit to Canadian Tire for inspection of 'COMPLIANCE'.
Canadian Tire is under contract with Transport Canada to do ALL of the inspections of imported vehicles from the US, whether it is a mobil bbq or a snowmobile trailer.
It is just to make sure that the trailer that is being brought into this country is safe for our highways, oh yeah, and to grab $180.00..

How did you get your compliance sticker from RIV before you picked the cooker up, the sticker takes weeks alone to get sent out and you just ordered the cooker a week or so ago?

If all the proper channels are followed then it is smooth as silk, if not, you could be held up for a bit while they try to figure it out...

Earl, you haven`t taken your cooker to Canadian Tire yet, how were you able to get a compliance sticker to bring to the border with you?

Or do you just mean you had a 'verification' that is was in fact a valid VIN#?

Mop
