Subject: David herman dune on Leeds and the seven inches

Just reading David Herman Dune's fascinating tour diary at www.hermandune.com
Highly recommended, heres something to whet your appetite:

We had one of those disgusting "greasy Spoon" vegetarian breakfusts, we'll probably be sick all day, but that's alright, Leeds is where we play next, and first, it's my favorite city in England, and second, it's just an hour drive from Manchester...
So, here we are, for the Go Johnny Go Go Go Go Festival of Leeds. Johnny is the coolest promoter, but it's actually the standard in Leeds, as everybody is just great here... I hope I'll get a Staff T-Shirt from the festival, they look cool. Steven from T+F is already there, he has a stand with "Mas Cambios", it's cheaper than the ones we sell, we'll have to change the price tag... Ther's a DJ in the venue, he plays "the Murder Mystery" by VU, and "I'm Losing my Edge" from LCD Sound System, I love those songs...
One of the few Satan's Fingers fans I've met is here, he's a really cool guy and we talk a bit, he loves music, you can feel it, I leave him to talk with Major Matt when Richie, that we met in Brighton shows up... Johnny doesn't seem stressed up at all, he's doing a good job organizing everything. At the door, I'm happy to find my friend Kery, from the "Cops and Robbers" house, I love those guys. It's like this Anarchist-squatt-vegetarian-musicians-crazy comunity of great people who used to set the shows we played in Leeds. As usual, Kery has crazy stories to tell about parties where he smashed tvs with guitars and stuff, it's a good laugh. I go with Jack and him to get a tape recorder from his place. Of course, we get there and the door is wide open, and the guy we borrow the thing from, doesn't even ask us who we are and what we're gonna do with his hi-fi equipment, even though Jack tells him we want to sell it to buy crack.
The venue is pretty packed, the Schwervons play a great show, although Neman plays the tambourine with them and looks really silly, he he...
Then, we're on. Of course we didn't soundcheck as we were hanging out with the cops and robbers. we didn't even bring the equipment in, we're gonna use the things that are on stage. I can't hear anything, the show must be quite bad, musically, but the audience is so cool that I still try my best to keep it together. I finally drop all instruments and sing my songs acappella (I've been requested Teddy Monkey Bear and Drug Dealer in The Park). Then we play Show me the Roof
with Rachel and The Monkey Song with Jack.

Andre ends up with both of them and sings the beautiful "In The Evening" of Ish Marquez. We get off stage and everybody is so supportive that I don't think about the terrible guitar sounds I just performed.

Jeff's show is great, I like it a lot better than yesterday,
especially, he has a new song about meeting Will Oldham on the L-Train that I loved. I leave the audience for "The Last Time I did Acid" though, cause it's too hot in there...

After the festival, everybody goes back to Manchester to sleep at Mysti's, but we, us three, decide to stay for a party at Johnny's, the promoter. I don't regret it, it's not often that we get to meet that many amazingly sweet and intelligent persons at the same time. We talk about a bizillion cool things, Kery and Neil from Polaris could be post-Fugazi indie Rock attitude teachers, except that they're certainly not straight-edge. A girl who dates a guy from Israel and I share a chat about judaism, an interesting one, I mean... Really, a cool night, the actual cops kinda busted in at the end, but nobody got troubled I guess, fortunately...

So, we just had the best time in Leeds, Jonny gave us T-shirts from the festival, and cds with our Luau song, a song by Jeff and Rachie, a song by Matt and Nan, and a band from Leeds I wanted to hear called the 7 inches, it's a 100 copies limitted edition just for the festival... It's really sunny outside, and we sing Smiths songs with my Ukulele...
