I go into the fetal position when anyone talks about math! I empathize with you. My son is severely dyslexic and was not reading until 6 th grade when we got him out of the public school to Kildonan in Amenia New York. For 4 years he has had one on one tutoring in Orton Gillingham and I am happy to say he is reading and doing well. Math however is a struggle for him as well as my daughter who is in college in Philadelphia. For her I had a tutor to support her as she took her middle school and HIgh school classes. She did well with tutoring but when she went to college this year she thought she could do it on her own and she found out she couldn't and had to drop the course. THis summer I am having her tutored. I feel the tutoring has been invaluable and she realizes she can't do it on her own. In high school her counselor said she had never seen anyone in her Junior year in geometry as well as advanced placement English and art! Know what your strengths are always. Don't let math get you down, emphasize what your gifts are. Dyslexics have AMAZING abilities, we just learn differently. Dyslexic have high IQ's they just need to figure out how they learn and advocate for yourselves. Don't hide the fact that you are dyslexic, accept it and learn what you need to to move on.
