Subject: Trivial Pursuits and a tour of Middle Earth!

Hi everyone! sorry Nomi and I havn't been writing very much recently, but at least now we've saved up lots of stuff to write about! I'll start by telling you that me and Naomi have decided to officially classify ourselves as genuises! We actually won a game of "Trivial Pursuits" against another pair of people who seemed to be quite intelligent! I think they were just as shocked as we were.

Me and Naomi actually knew the answer to very few of the questions, but by making extremely faulty leaps of logic and quite a few completely random guesses, we actually managed to get most of the questions right! It must have been frustrating for our opponents because they could probably tell we really had no idea what we were talking about, but we just seemed to keep getting the questions right anyway! Dad, I think me and Nomi should play a game against you when we get home to see if our combined force is enough to defeat you and your incredible knowledge of trivial and obscure facts.

In other news, me and Nomi got to lay our eyes upon the pillars of the kings(or at least the location where the pillars used to be), gaze in horror at the terrible mountains of Mordor(which are actually quite lovely at this time of year), behold the mighty river that swept away the shadowy ringwraiths(it was a good couple of inches deep at least!), and travel along the horrible and barren Road to Mordor(at least our guide thought it was the road to Mordor). And we got to do it all from the safety and comfort of a 4 wheel drive! This was of course the "Safari of the Rings" that Naomi mentioned in a previous post.

Tons of footage from LOTR was filmed around Queenstown, the scenery in the area is so magnificant and diverse! The location for the Pillars of the Kings was on a little river across from a bungy jump site. They definately enlarged the rock walls for that particular scene, because rather then towering mightily above our heads, the rock cliffs seemed no more than a few meters high.

The Remarkables(the aptly named local mountain range) were used as the mountains that surround Mordor. They actually just took the mountain range and duplicated it a few times sticking it end to end, so if you look closely you should be able to see the same peaks two or three times. The same mountain range was also used as the backdrop when the People of Rohan were fleeing to Helms Deep.

The river where the Ringwraiths are swept away is low at this time of year, so it seemed a little shallow to be sweeping away anything larger than an ant, but it was still neat to see. The Road to Mordor doesn't appear until the third film, so our guide wasn't 100% sure that the scenery he was showing us(Skippers Canyon) was the Road to Mordor, but it certainly looked like it. Even if it doean't appear in the film, the huge and barren Canyon was very impressive to see!

Other LOTR locations we were shown was the place where the Warg riders attacked the people of Rohan, the cliff Aragorn fell from into the river, the part of the river Aragorn washed up onto(while unconscious he somehow managed to float upstream!), and probably a few other locations I can't remember at the moment.

We also got to pan for gold and enjoy some free refreshments, so all in all it was a very good day! And as if that wasn't LOTRsy enough, we went out that night(with the people we beat in Trivial Pursuit) to a bar called the Rattlesnake, whick is apparently where the LOTR cast hung out when thay where in town! I think we've gotten our fill of LOTR for a while, we should be fine now until the next movie comes out ;)

Love Sarah
