Subject: What I had for breakfast!

Hi to both you guys:

Yesterday for breakfast, I had cottage cheese and fruit. Today, I had cereal. Now, let's see. What else do I have to tell you about...

Erin and Nathan are over in Vancouver right now. Last night they went to the Coldplay concert in Vancouver. They took Liam over, stayed at Loyd and Cathy's house, and Cathy and Kelsey took care of Liam while they were at the concert. I'm sure you'll get more details from Erin or Cathy.

Our townhouse deal closes in one week. Yesterday we finalized basement plans with Brock. He is going to be doing most of the work. Right now, it is a completely undeveloped basement. We will put a nice rec. room in, (adding a well window so there is some daylight). Also we're putting in a bathroom with a shower. The other area will remain undeveloped for now, and will be storage. You will enter into the developed area of the basement. There are other things we want to do, but not just now.

Sarah, you are receiving lots of welcoming information from UVic. We've paid your $100. fee, so, you've got a guaranteed spot now. In one of your letters, it says you must complete 1.5 units of English, and you can choose from English 125, 135, or 145.

I'll quote from your Welcome to Faculty of Humanities letter.
"The goal in Humanitites is education for life. Although its central purpose is not job training, the Faculty of Humanities is committed to promoting the employment of its graduates. It works towards this end in two ways: by providing its student with fundamental skills, knowledge, and an ability to learn that will enable them to master a wide variety of occupations; and by offering students opportunities, such as professional writing and co-op programs, that will enable them to translate their academic work into practice. As data from Statistics Canada demonstrates unambiguously, Humanities graduates thrive in the workplace and rise to positions of leadership in virtually every area of human endeavour.

There you go, Sarah. Are you inspired? Guidance is available to you at email address: adva@uvic.ca

Grandma Penny and Auntie Florence just got back from a week in Winnipeg, but I'm sure Grandma will tell you about that.

I'm so glad you had the opportunity to stay with Lois and then with Lynne. You guys are lucky! It sounds like you had a really good time with both.

Grandma Murie, Auntie Gail, and Terry came over last week-end for Dad's birthday. We did our usual nice Victoria things - a drive to Beacon Hill Park along the waterfront, watching a band and choir performance in the park, while eating a picnic lunch (the Jr. High band was lousy, but the choir from Port Moody was excellent). Also, we met Dad and Uncle Frank at a restaurant in Sydney, for lunch. Grandpa and Uncle Frank were 'batching it' while Grandma and Auntie Florence were away. Grandma Muriel and Auntie Gail will be coming back for Auntie Gail's birthday on the 14th of June.

Last night Dad and I went to see a silly, but enjoyable movie called 'Down with Love', with Ewan McGregor and Renee Zellweiger. We got to see it at the Tillicum Theatres, because Mom and Dad gave Dad some tickets to it for his birthday. It's nice not having to look around heads to see the show.

That's about all my exciting news for now.

I'm glad it was so easy for you to find work. Zucchini picking really doesn't sound like much fun. It's hard to believe there can be such a discrepancy in the wages. Are you able to turn down work at the farms where you know the pay is lousy?

Keep us posted!!!

Lots of love,

Mom
